Delta Air Lines Canceling 300 Flights Tuesday
Tuesday’s interruptions to America’s second largest airline can be attributed to Monday’s system-wide power outage at Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Thought the airline’s electronic systems are slowly returning to operation, Reuters reports that Delta has already canceled 300 flights today as it attempts to normalize the chaos.
“We were able to bring our systems back on line and resume flights within a few hours yesterday but we are still operating in recovery mode”, Holtz said in the statement.
The airline is now “still operating in recovery mode” despite going back online a day prior, said Delta’s Senior Vice President for Operations Dave Holtz.
Delta said the outage began around 2:30 a.m., and nearly three hours later, a ground stop was instituted on all departing flights around the globe. “The company could have done a better job of explaining. what was happening”.
The flight tracking service FlightStats said there were almost 600 delayed flights on Tuesday, with cancelled flights closer to 330. A ground stop that was set up taking after the blackout was lifted around 8:40 a.m. ET and restricted flights continued. Southwest Airlines passengers were delayed last month by computer problems, and United Airlines experienced similar woes last summer.
Delta initially pointed to a loss of electricity from Georgia Power, which serves its Atlanta hub, when its worldwide computer network crashed at 2:30 a.m. Monday. He said no other customers lost power.
According to the company’s website, tickets must be reissued by Friday. Even brief outages can snarl traffic and cause long delays.
The airlines said it cancelled the flights as it worked to “reset the operation and get crews, aircraft and other operational elements in place to take care of customers”. Agents at many airports were using pen and paper to create boarding passes.
The back-to-back crashes are not indicative of a trend, said Mark Duell, vice president of operations for FlightAware, another flight tracker. There is always a delay, or weather, or something.

“I have not gotten any communication from Delta”, Baker said.
