Trump’s campaign chair quits after revelations of Ukraine ties

It’s been another tumultuous week for the Donald Trump presidential campaign.

Donald Trump is showing his softer side as he consoles Louisiana homeowners hit by devastating flooding. President Obama has been criticized for declining to visit while on vacation.

The typically brash and spotlight-seeking billionaire offered notably restrained remarks as he surveyed the waterlogged wreckage.

“Nobody understands how bad it is”. It is really incredible.

Donald Trump’s outspoken campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, resigned Friday from the campaign – days after he was pushed aside for conservative media executive Steven Bannon – and also amid growing speculation about his ties to Ukrainian politics.

Mercury’s founder, Vin Weber, an influential Republican and former congressman, told the AP that his firm was aware of Manafort’s and Gates’ affiliation with Ukraine’s political party and said Gates never participated in Mercury’s lobbying work.

The emails do not describe details about the role of Manafort, who was Gates’ boss at their firm, DMP International LLC. The report said Manafort and Rick Gates, his deputy in his consulting work and on the Trump campaign, did not register as foreign agents, a requirement for those lobbying on behalf of foreign leaders or parties. “Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success”, Trump said.

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, said unflattering headlines about Manafort were taking a toll. Trump’s son Eric, meanwhile, told Fox News that Manafort “was incredible”, but his father didn’t want to be “distracted by whatever things Paul was dealing with”.

Trump’s supportive comments of Russian President Vladimir Putin had already drawn criticism.

“This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign”, Mr. Trump said in a statement on Friday.

In the ad, Trump paints a dystopian picture of Clinton’s America. We all need to do our part to make sure he doesn’t. “(Trump is) quite open to discussions, but he doesn’t like to read the staff thoughts in the paper”, Bennett said after Wednesday’s shakeup.

The businessman and his running mate, Mike Pence, drove past piles of ripped-up carpet, furniture and personal belongings discarded on curbs.

Donald Trump is receiving a warm reception as he tours a heavily-damaged portion of East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana.

“We knew you would be here for us!” another shouted.

“Those who believe in oppressing women, gays, Hispanics, African Americans and people of different faiths are not welcome to join our country”, he said.

Stephen Bannon and Kellyanne Conway were added to the campaign hierarchy as Manafort, the former campaign manager, was demoted to chairperson. The decision suggested to some that Trump might ramp up the divisive rhetoric that has angered minorities and alienated large swaths of the electorate.

While it remains too early to tell, the first moves under the new regime have largely shown an investment in conventional campaigning. The GOP nominee heads to Michigan Friday evening for a rally, and to Virginia on Saturday.

Although the suburb just outside Lansing is overwhelmingly white, Trump made an appeal to black voters. “He did a great job with the delegates, you know, and you know, now you look at KellyAnne (Trump’s new campaign manager) and some of the other people we’re bringing in and they’re absolutely fantastic, and you know, I think they’re gonna be the ones that are going to bring us all the way through November 8”, he said.

The billionaire businessman also said Democrats had let down black voters and vowed “If African-American voters give Donald Trump a chance by giving me their vote”, he said, “the result for them will be awesome”.
