Phelps explains tears following 22nd gold medal

The chance to watch Phelps take on Lochte and others one last time in one of his best competitions should be must-watch TV (or live stream if you prefer).

Phelps stormed to victory to win his 22nd Olympic gold medal in the men’s 200m individual medley yesterday (August 11).

He’s got 13 individual golds and 26 medals overall. “It’s been a hell of a career”. Pereira was out fast and was ahead of World Record pace by.15 seconds with Phelps and Lochte in second and third.

This time, he didn’t even make the podium. He led at the midway point but faded to fifth. It appeared to be the last dance of their 12-year run of bringing out the best in each other, as they like to put it.

“The history him and I have had with one another; it’s something special and something I’ve never had in another competitor of mine”, Phelps said. Michael Phelps earned gold, and Kosuke Hagino took home silver.

But Phelps was in a league of his own.

But while the 24-year-old would’ve been devastated to miss out on the top three, he will hope to at least move up one position in the 100m butterfly final.

Now he seems capable of sweeping all six of his events.

Ryan Lochte believes he will need a ideal performance in order to defeat Michael Phelps in Thursday’s 200 metre individual medley at Rio 2016.

Ten minutes before the race began, Phelps, 31, and Lochte, 32, could be seen in the waiting area as a medal ceremony was performed at poolside for an earlier race.

It was quite a night for the powerful American team, which picked up two more golds. Lochte beat Phelps in the 400 IM on the first day of swimming in London, his most notable victory on a big stage in their rivalry.

Just as he did Sunday night, Phelps shared the stage at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium with Katie Ledecky, the Bethesda, Md., teenager who’s primed to replace him as the world’s most dominant swimmer.

Olympic and world champion Florent Manaudou was only fourth quickest among the speed demons in the men’s 50m freestyle heats, the giant Frenchman clocking 21.72 seconds.
