Former LSU WR Johnson transfers to Oklahoma State

Wide receiver Tyron Johnson has announced he will transfer to Oklahoma State from LSU.

LSU’s 2016 media guide has this to say about Johnson: Electrifying with the ball in his hands after the catch. Oklahoma State fits that bill well enough. “They were the school I initially thought of when I decided that transferring was the best option for me and I’m glad everything worked out”. As a 5-star recruit out of high school, Johnson was an Under Armour All American in 2015, and had seriously considered the Cowboys during his high school recruitment.

We thought this could be in the works last week when Johnson announced his intent to transfer.

Though it’s not directly out of high school, Johnson is still one of the more highly regarded players to come to Oklahoma State in the Mike Gundy era.

Johnson is the fourth wide receiver to leave LSU this offseason as their offense isn’t particularly friendly to receivers beyond the top two. “It was tough, but I’m glad I got through it and ended up where I wanted to be”.

He also bolsters what should be a strong receiving corps for OSU in 2017.

“It was great knowing those guys still had my back”, he said.

LSU blocked his ability to play for a school within the SEC next year, but Johnson, through his father, was expected to decide on his destination within a week. Has worked his way into contention for more playing time as a sophomore. “I learned a lot while I was there about football and life”. I will miss Coach (Les) Miles and those guys, though. My heart is with all the people affected by the flood.
