The Clinton Foundation has always been a cause of scrutiny among opponents of Hillary Clinton, with Donald Trump accusing Clinton of a “pay-to-play” relationship with foreign donors during her time as Secretary of State.

The Clinton Foundation has been source of headaches for the power couple for years, with Republicans accusing Hillary Clinton of engaging in “pay to play”, alleging that she sold access and favors to foreign donors while at the helm of the State Department between 2009 and 2013. It’s a real Catch 22.

The Clinton Foundation also would no longer accept foreign and corporate donations if Mrs. Clinton were elected president, a foundation official said on Thursday.

Bill will also resign from the foundation board, and Chelsea will stop raising money for it.

Refocus them on bank accounts in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands? So there you have it: The foundation has not accepted any money from a foreign government or corporation.

During Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the foundation has come under scrutiny – and The Boston Globe on Wednesday demanded in an editorial that the Clintons shut down the entity should voters send her to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the fall.

“Again, why did she allow it to go on during the time she was secretary of state?”

“When anyone contributes to the Clinton Foundation, it goes towards foundation programs that help save lives”, a spokesman said a year ago.

And now the Clintons have promised to not accept donations from corporations or foreign entities should Ms. Clinton be elected president [“Clinton Foundation would restrict some donations”, news, August 19].

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called the move “too little, too late”. Bowing to pressure in April 2015, the group announced that it would restrict donations to only six Western nations and disclose its donors more frequently. Corrupt Venezuelan Banker Gonzalo Tirado hired Jonathan Mantz, a Clinton fundraiser, and made a donation to the Clinton Foundation in order to avoid being extradited to Venezuela whileClinton served as Secretary of State.

One of Clinton’s top aides at the State Department, Cheryl Mills, was also exposed in the e-mails to have conducted interviews with job candidates for the Clinton Foundation.

The foundation has estimated that commitments by its members have improved the lives of more than 430 million people in more than 180 countries.
