USA Boxing confirms walkover for Shakur Stevenson over Vladimir Nikitin
The so-called AIBA R&J Commission (referees and judges) had reviewed all 239 bouts to date in Rio “and determined that less than a handful of the decisions were not at the level expected”, said the statement.

It did not say which bouts were affected.
Since the boxing events commenced at the Rio Olympics, observers said there were a number of questionable results that had drawn protests from competitors, coaches and the media.
That means operational responsibilities for the remainder of the Olympic boxing will be taken over by Franco Falcinelli, president of the European Boxing Confederation, at the expense of Karim Bouzidi.
It did not name any of the dropped officials.
The biggest and most blatant injustice was the decision against light-middleweight Jones, who lost the gold medal fight at the Seoul Games to home fighter Park Si-hun after dominating the fight.
“The concerned referees and judges will no longer officiate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games”, the body said, adding that the results of all the bouts would stand.

Hong/AP Images]The New York Times spoke with several United States boxing coaches at the Rio boxing venue on Wednesday and reports that the prevailing view is the booted boxing judges were not corrupt, but had perhaps not been trained to the level necessary to judge such important matches.
Following the quarterfinal match in the bantamweight division where Conlan left his opponent Vladimir Nikitin of Russian Federation bloodied and bruised, the judges ruled that Nikitin would advance much to the chagrin of Conlan.
USA Boxing have now confirmed their fighter Stevenson has progressed into the final, with the head of the Russian delegation at the Games Igor Kazikov also confirming their fighter’s withdrawal.
U.S. coach Billy Walsh reportedly told StiffJab, that Stevenson will get a walkover because of the facial damage to the Russian. AIBA picks five judges to work each bout and prohibits judges from a fighter’s country, or from a country in conflict with a fighter’s country, from working a bout.
“With regard to corruption, we would like to strongly restate that unless tangible proof is put forward, not rumors”, the statement read.
He also hopes that his angry reaction after the fight “opens the eyes of the world” to amateur boxing’s scoring system for athletes in the future.
“There have been some very bad decisions and it leaves me baffled as to what they have been told to focus on”.

Aiba has recently changed from a system in which judges press a button to record a punch to a more interpretive system where a round-winner is handed 10 points and the loser is given a lesser number based on punches, aggression and tactics.
