For the latest news on Below and all things independent games, stay tuned to Hardcore Gamer for the latest. With consumer hopes for long-in-development games so high, Capybara may wish to avoid the same hostility.

Originally announced way back at E3 2013, Below has been scheduled for several release windows, but nothing definitive.

Rather than let us stew and wait, though, Capy Games chose to come right out and announce the indefinite delay. Below was previously expected to launch at the end of 2015, until a separate last-minute delay caused that release date to slip into this year.

So not to put the pressure of a release date on the studio, the team will now go dark and we won’t hear from them again until a new release date is ready to be announced.

“We told you BELOW would be out this summer” Capybara wrote on its official blog. But after a strong push, we’ve decided it isn’t ready, ‘ the team admitted in a blog post announcing the delay. “The company says that a lot of soul searching has led it to this decision, and that rather than giving eager fans another release date that doesn’t pan out, it is simply ‘going dark” while it works on the project. “Accepting, even after this long development, that the game needs more time is hard, but it’s important that we are honest”, the studio wrote.

“BELOW has been our most ambitious undertaking, and we’re just not quite done excavating its depths, or polishing all of its facets”, said the studio.
