Saina Nehwal to undergo surgery on Saturday

India’s star badminton player, Saina Nehwal was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad and undergoing treatment for her knee injury which affected her progress in the badminton event of the Rio Olympics 2016. “She then underwent treatment for her injury and an MRI scan was done as well”, says Usha. She was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, and is scheduled for a surgery early Saturday.

Saina, who won the Bronze medal at 2012 Olympics alongside several other coveted global titles, had to face this embarrassing situation due to her poor performance at Rio. The injury took a bad turn during her match against Maria Ulitina at the league stage.

After her exit, her personal coach, Vimal Kumar, said that all the team members were aware of the injury, but none from the media was told. She chose to respond in the most dignified way possible. The world no 5 lost her second group league encountered 18-21, 19-21 to World No 61 Ulitina to crash out of the competition.

She later revealed that she had a inflammation on her right knee.
