In this regard, He called on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease hostilities and for the Yemeni parties to return to direct talks.

“Days after yet another hospital has been bombed in Yemen, it is time for the United Kingdom government to reconfirm our commitment to International Humanitarian Law and be absolutely clear that we will not support the re-election of Saudi Arabia to the UN Human Rights Council, ” Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Tom Brake told the Independent on Friday.

“Civilians, including children, are paying the heaviest price in the ongoing conflict, as civilian infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals, continue to be hit”, said a statement issued by his spokesperson, citing Mr. Ban’s ongoing concern at the escalation of violence in the country since the Yemeni talks ended on 6 August.

Almost a dozen civilians, including two children, have been killed and several others injured when Saudi military aircraft mounted a raft of fresh airstrikes on various residential areas in crisis-plagued Yemen. Nevertheless, earlier this month, President Obama approved a weapons deal providing Saudi Arabia with over billion in military equipment.

The UN General Assembly elected Saudi Arabia to the Human Rights Council on November 12, 2013.

However, Foreign Policy reported that officials say the mood in the United Nations has shifted in the past week and Ban’s top advisors, including Leila Zerrougui, are now brandishing the threat to shame the coalition if they fail to rein in their bombs.

Al-Qaeda and Islamic State group jihadists have exploited a power vacuum in Yemen to expand their presence in the country’s south and southeast. Thom Tillis and Richard Burr vote against any more USA involvement in the war against Yemen, and it is time for the American people to demand that President Obama live up to his Nobel Peace Prize.
