Chloe Esposito won gold with an incredible finish in the women’s pentathlon
Australia’s Chef de Mission, Kitty Chiller, herself a modern pentathlete who represented Australia at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, was at the venue celebrating Esposito’s success.

Gold medal: Chloe Esposito pictured after her swim.
She finished in the middle of the pack during the fencing round, but had a strong swimming leg and did well in the equestrian section to move up the rankings on Friday.
Her best event is the running-shooting combination in the finale, so she knew gold was still within reach.
Esposito, 24, won the event by 16 seconds, overtaking Poland’s Oktawia Nowacka with one of the four laps remaining.
An outstanding heat in the pool earlier in the day put Esposito in seventh position overall prior to the afternoon session.
Her brother, Max, is also competing at Rio 2016 in the men’s modern pentathlon, which continues on Saturday.

“Since I’ve been young, I’ve known I wanted to go to Olympic Games and I was lucky enough to come to my second Olympics and have the support of my family”, said Esposito, who finished seventh at the 2012 London Games. She hit the required 20 targets in just 21 shots. “First person ever in Australia to win a medal in pentathlon, and I can’t describe it”, she said.
