PV Sindhu is quite the allrounder these days.

In their last five meetings in the last two years, Marin has beaten Sindhu four times with the Indian gaining an upper hand during the Denmark Super Series last year, but on Friday she could not repeat the feat.

Despite the result, India’s first silver medal from an Olympic badminton final is assured. But her coach P. Gopichand, deserves equal credit. “It was good (the win against Wang Yihan) but in my book she can do a notch higher”.

Talking to the media after the final, Sindhu said “What do I say”. She’s still young, and has age on her side.

“Great game played with grit; Hearty congrats #PVSindhu on creating history by winning for India Olympic Silver medal”, Mukherjee tweeted. But I really worked hard.

Gopichand’s mother, Pullela Subbaravamma, who is involved with managing the badminton academy, said her son and Sindhu shared a special relationship.

Voicing his feelings afterwards, a relieved Fu said: “I think we were under a lot of pressure playing this match”. “We used to see how Gopi and Sindhu work hard”. One has to win and one has to lose. A better medal than everybody else has done so far. I also stopped her from eating ice-cream. @SakshiMalik & @Pvsindhu1 has made us all Indians proud with their remarkable achievements.

Overall, however, Marin’s superior movement afforded an edge in this match because she continually addressed shuttles in the best possible balance and recovery states thus giving her good control on the shuttles, whereas Sindhu had started to play with a reduced palette of strokes to eliminate her own unforced errors.

“I was really prepared for everything because I knew it would happen”. CM @ChouhanShivraj announced that a reward of Rs. 25 lakh would be given to @SakshiMalik for clinching a bronze medal at #Rio2016 #Olympics. “Definitely I feel that I’ve a chance”, Sindhu said on Thursday. I wanted to tell her this to ensure that she does not forget the last week’s effort that she put in to come to second place on the podium. She first went for Tynybekova’s legs in the process of lifting her up and slamming down two points. Now, she would rather study her rival before devising a strategy to dominate her.

The Hyderabadi got a taste of what her life will be from now on when she was pulled and prodded as she made her way through a throng of reporters desperate to hang on to every word coming out of her mouth.

“She is only 21 and I hope she would play for another eight to ten years”. It is sheer coincidence that she bumped into two of them at the Olympics. Sindhu looked a bit slow in her court movements. But even when defeated, Sindhu came down to Marin and lifted up the victor and congratulated her. Apparently, her net game suffered the most in these circumstances. The Spaniard expressed her relief on sealing victory, pumping her fists and roaring with delight as she took the acclaim of her flag-waving compatriots in the stands. The Chinese was well and truly collared. The ace badminton player gave a tough fight to world No. 1 Carolina Marin in the women’s singles final but could not win the top prize.

Knowing that Sindhu’s turn to speak would come much later Ramana requested the organisers that they be allowed to leave as they needed to get up early for practice. Indeed, it was the forecourt where the match was won and lost. It ll happen every time.
