But one of his victims, the only one who spoke at the hearing, attacked him. Sharper is facing charges in four states for allegedly drugging woman and sexually assaulting them.
In the courtroom, Sharper offered an apology to his victims: “I would like to apologize a thousand times to plaintiffs in this case for making them victims”, he said. “They didn’t deserve anything, or to be a part of this heinous decision, which is all on me”. “I still don’t know why I lived my life right for 38 years, and then I took this path”.

Sharper’s federal sentence exceeds the 17-year prison term that the former deputy, Brandon Licciardi, accepted this summer. Licciardi pleaded guilty to raping one woman in New Orleans and participating in the drugging scheme.
Before being indicted in Arizona, Sharper was arrested in California on charges of drugging and raping two women in that state. Sharper is due up first, next Thursday.
Licciardi is scheduled for sentencing October 13, along with a second New Orleans codefendant, Erik Nunez.
The judge said he will be on three years supervised release after he gets out of prison, including sex treatment conditions and registration as a sex offender.
Sharper’s 14-year career in the National Football League included stints with the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.
Darren Sharper won the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2010.
The former Pro-Bowler received twice what prosecutors recommended.
