Cheick Sallah Cisse made history by winning Ivory Coast’s first gold medal at an Olympic Games, and did so in stunning fashion.

A botched first changeover between Mike Rodgers and Justin Gatlin left them deflated and saw Canada elevated to bronze.

Usain Bolt cemented his name in athletics history as Jamaica won the men’s 4×100 relay in Rio to give the sprint legend the treble treble at the Olympic Games.

The 21-year-old De Grasse had it coming and he got it.

At the same time, silver for Jamaica allowed Veronica Campbell-Brown to win a medal at a fifth Olympics dating back to the 2000 Sydney Games.

Just over two years ago Cuban light-heavyweight Julio Cesar La Cruz was shot in a botched robbery and his boxing career thrown into jeopardy.
