MOSCOW-Russia is ready to observe a 48-hour cease-fire to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid into the embattled Syrian city of Aleppo next week, military spokesman Maj.

“More precise date and time will be determined after receiving information about the readiness of the convoys from the United Nations representatives and receiving confirmation of the security guarantees of their safe travel from our American partners”, a Russian defence ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by the Tass news agency. A 48-hour pause in fighting in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo will be the main topic for Thursday’s meeting of a group of countries working for a cessation of hostilities.
“Our plan is to collectively work out the operational details, and be ready for delivery as soon as possible”, de Mistura said in a statement.
The EU on Thursday called for an “immediate halt” to fighting, as the United Nations said aid was not reaching the besieged residents desperate for food and care.
He said the task force is suspended until next week in the hopes of bringing together the United States and Russian Federation.
