Manchester To Host Olympics And Paralympics Homecoming Parade
A parade has been held after every summer Olympics and Paralympics since 2004 but there are no plans for one to be held at present despite it being the most successful Games outside of Britain in terms of medals. “It will be a celebration fit for heroes – and rightly so, because that is exactly what they are”.

Britain’s Olympians have paraded through the streets of London after numerous last Olympic games including in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
Labour’s candidate for mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “There will be overwhelming public support for a formal event and a strong case for that to be held outside of London, reflecting the fact that our athletes come from all parts of the UK”.
Sadiq Khan indicated that he wanted to see celebrations in London, after previous suggestions that no official plans were in place.
“The city has been a medal factory, pumping out golds as the home of British cycling and British Taekwondo”.
Mrs May added: “For the past fortnight, the people of the United Kingdom have been filled with pride as we’ve watched our Olympians take victory in so many sports with power, grace and control”.
“These guys and girls in Rio have spent years of hard work and training getting ready for the Olympic Games and performing so well and making us all so proud”.
Manchester is home to the National Cycling Centre and Velodrome – where Olympic gold medalists Jason Kenny and Laura Trott trained – as well as being the centre of British Taekwondo.
“If we smarten up as a nation, we can use it to inspire the nation and make sure on one day – we can call it Olympic celebration day – we get everyone active and we thank all those who helped the Olympians to do what they’ve done”.
A record medal haul for British athletes at the Rio Olympics is to be recognised with a parade through the streets of Manchester, with a separate party planned in London.
