Hawaii’s unemployment rate inches higher to 3.5 percent
L.A. County’s unemployment rate fell to 4.8 percent in July, its lowest level in almost 10 years, despite a sharp seasonal drop in employer payrolls, state figures released Friday show.

Job markets in recent months have been strong, with the U.S. economy adding more than a quarter million jobs in July.
Last month’s preliminary rate was down from the 5.3 percent statewide rate in July 2015.
The Texas unemployment rate rose slightly in July to 4.6 percent as jobs continued to grow modestly, the Texas Workforce Commission reported.
Kansas not seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs decreased by 2,600, a 0.2 percent decrease since July 2015.
Don Baker with the Dayton Business Journal said nurses, truck drivers and manufacturing jobs are the highest in demand for the Miami Valley. Thanks to the summer recess, educational institutions spurred the drop in the government sector, which dropped 38,500 jobs.
New unemployment numbers are out for the Buckeye state. Payroll jobs shrank by 9,300, although seasonal factors were at play.
Arkansas’ civilian labor force declined 2,430, a result of 2,700 fewer employed and 270 more unemployed Arkansans. Most of the contraction occurred in food services (-1,800), related in part to temporary shutdowns in school cafeterias and contract services. The EDD said California has added 374,600 nonfarm payroll jobs since July 2015.

On Friday the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry released it’s employment report for July.
