Jamaica wins 3rd straight 4×100 gold; Bolt gets his ‘triple-triple’
In the women’s 4x100m relay, the United States took gold in 41.01sec ahead of Jamaica (41.36sec) and Great Britain (41.77sec). Ryan Lochte apologized on Instagram.

The gold was the third straight for Bolt and Jamaica in the event, to go along with the individual Olympic triple-double Bolt completed Thursday night in Rio.
However, the United States was controversially denied the bronze medal after being disqualified with a lane infringement handing the trophy to Canada (37.64). That led to the re-run, and the Americans qualified fastest, taking the place of China in the final. It was the third global loss for Burroughs, who won gold in London in 2012 and whose charismatic, social media-friendly persona has made him the face of wrestling in the U.S.
Olympic champs Merlene Ottey and Veronica Campbell-Brown both preceded Bolt from the parish, as did Sanya Richards-Ross (who won gold running for the U.S.) and Ben Johnson (who won Olympic gold and set two world records before being banned for doping).
The form of Bolt’s teammates has been patchy at these Games.
The 12-time Olympic medalist reiterated his view that a stranger pointed a gun at him and demanded money to let him leave a gas station. Police said the swimmers had vandalized the gas station. That may be part of the reason he’s beloved worldwide (more so than in the USA, where his Q Score is a modest 20).
On Sunday Bolt became the first man in history to win a hat-trick of 100m gold medals.
The American women’s 4×100 relay team will try to capitalize on its reprieve following a collision on a handoff at the Olympic track stadium, and Germany and Sweden meet in the first all-European Olympic women’s soccer final.
Asked again if he might compete in Tokyo in 2020, he said, “No, definitely not”. That’s why it is my last Olympics. “For me, I got that phrase from an interview one time and it feels so good to use because I’ve done so much at the Olympics over the years”. Also two shots back in the final group is Gerina Piller.
Bolt’s time of 19.78 seconds was the slowest of his four straight world championship and three Olympic triumphs over 200 metres but it certainly did not dampen the celebrations. It was the third worldwide loss for Burroughs, who won gold in London in 2012 and whose charismatic, social media-friendly persona has made him the face of wrestling in the U.S. Just don’t rip on Brazilians’ favorite snack, called Biscoito Globo.

Day 14 of the Rio Games features medal action in track and field, soccer, wrestling, boxing, platform diving and more. Just like they took offense to Hope Solo’s tweets about the Zika virus.
