Olympic Swimmer Jimmy Feigen Agrees to Pay $11000 to Leave Rio

Feigen did not join Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger when they left Thursday night because he was ordered to donate nearly $11,000 to a local sports charity before charges against him would be dropped. Bentz said that as Jack Conger and James Feigen walked away from the auto a man held up a badge and pulled a gun on the Americans. Another guard also drew his handgun and both were pointed at the group.

Bentz also said the guards put down their guns after being paid. They boarded a plane Wednesday night to leave Rio, but authorities removed the pair from the jet. Shifting accounts in TV interviews and social media posts.

After taking over media headlines with 2016’s latest #WhitePrivilege scandal, the 12-time Olympic medalist turned to Instagram this morning to issue a formal apology for his actions in Brazil and the irresponsible activity that followed as he tried to escape his own crimes. I am very proud to represent my country in Olympic competition and this was a situation that could and should have been avoided.

Ryan Lochte, the American swimmer, apologised yesterday (Friday) for concocting a story about being mugged to cover up the fact that he and three team-mates had smashed up a petrol station in Rio.

The apology comes on the heels of a press conference held Thursday, where Chief of Civil Police of Rio Fernando Veloso told reporters that the police were unable to confirm that there had been a robbery the way it was claimed by the athletes based on surveillance footage obtained from the gas station and further testimonies.

“I think that is why I do so many different things with the hair, the grills, the insane shoes”, he said in Rio, “It’s just my personality coming out there”.

As a result of the discrepancies, two of Lochte’s fellow swimmers were pulled from their flights back to the USA for further questioning, and a third has agreed to pay about $11,000 to a Brazilian charity in exchange for permission to leave the country. Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz had their passports released and were allowed to leave Brazil after being questioned by investigators.

Lochte and two other swimmers are back in the States now. When they realized there was no bathroom inside the gas station, Conger said they walked behind the gas station and urinated outside.

In their statement, Bentz, Conger and Feigen blamed the more famous and absent Lochte for inventing the story even though he had previously appeared on USA television to talk about the alleged assault at gunpoint in Rio, where the swimmers had been competing in the Olympics.

Feigen is still resolving his charges before returning to the U.S.
