After years of delay, London’s ‘night tube’ trains start running

“I’m really pleased that 100 days or so after becoming the mayor we’ve got that right”, Khan said.

Services could be rolled out to the London Overground in 2017 and the Docklands Lite Railway in 2021.

The founder and CEO of eMoov, Russell Quirk, says: “In London in particular, property close by to a good transport link, such as an Underground station, will always command more where price is concerned”.

“We have waited too long for the promises made by the previous Mayor to become a reality”, he said back in April of the Night Tube, “but ensuring it is up and running as quickly as possible once I am in City Hall will be invaluable in helping to save London’s nightlife”.

The Night Tube is seen as a boost for revellers, tourists and shift workers, who on Friday and Saturday nights will be able to travel on the network at any chosen hour.

Former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, had hoped to get the service underway by July, but new Mayor Sadiq Khan will travel on its maiden journey from Brixton.

LU’s new managing director, Mark Wild, who launched night services in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this year, said: “What happened there is what I expect will happen here”.

We’ve already identified some key benefits – and most Londoners, retail groups and even the RMT seem to be excited about it.

24-hour grocery stores: It wouldn’t be a surprise to see more people picking up groceries in the middle of the night, which could benefit the popular grocery chain Tesco. The financial analysts predicted that the new services could boost the city’s economy by up to 77 million pounds annually and support tens of thousands of new jobs by 2029.

Mr Khan told the Press Association that the type of people using the Night Tube will include doctors, nurses, security guards, porters and tourists.

Planning for the change was meticulous.

During the dress rehearsal, cleaning crews sopped up chicken soup flung around the carriages to simulate vomit. Manolis Zografakis, a digital consultant who runs a website called BrokeinLondon.com, wonders how plausible overnight subway service will be in a culture that often encourages binge drinking.

However, the average house price along the Central Night Tube line comes in just shy of this, at £858,034, while the Victoria line is the more expensive of the two, at an average of £939,812.

In fact, according to the same report, London’s “24-hour economy” could contribute close to £30 billion ($39.2 billion) to the United Kingdom capital each year by the year 2030, and support as much as 790,000 jobs. We’re determined to make sure it’s a safe environment.
