Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has lauded the consistent support of Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Kashmir issue.
OIC Chief said the global community has the role to play in this regard, adding the world must realize that human rights violations should be addressed promptly.
Aziz expressed his concern over the “rising incidents of extrajudicial killings” in Kashmir, Geo News reported.
In the last 40 days more than 80 Kashmiris have been martyred 6,000 injured and over a hundred have lost their eyesight due to pellet guns firing, he added.
In his remarks, Sartaj Aziz appreciated OIC’s support of Pakistan’s stance over Kashmir.
Moreover, he said the situation in the valley is not an internal issue and greater efforts should be made for exposing human rights violations there.
“He said those involved in human rights violations in the valley should be identified and given strict punishment”, it said.
Pakistan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have agreed that under the umbrella of the 57-member Islamic bloc, they must build an effective counter-narrative against extremism and terrorism.
The OIC general secretary has been on an official visit to Pakistan.
The adviser said that during the meeting, they stressed the need of intensifying cooperation among the OIC countries and constructive exchange of ideas to address the increasing trends of Islamophobia and defamation of religions. We hope that a referendum is held in Kashmir. Most Kashmiris want an end to Indian rule and favor independence or a merger with Pakistan.
Aziz also welcomed UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s statement offering his good offices to initiate a dialogue between Pakistan and India.
Madani to a query replied that Muslim countries were sovereign and could take their individual decisions.
The Secretary General of the OIC, along with senior officials of the OIC Secretariat are in Pakistan on a two-day official visit.
