Trump campaign chief Manafort resigns after being pushed aside

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, said ahead of Trump’s visit that he wouldn’t be involved, adding that Trump is welcome, “but not for a photo-op”. Nothing would be more fun than a Corey/Bannon/Conway knife-fight for power with Manafort crony Roger Stone off-camera, whispering into Trump’s ear.

Eric Trump, the candidate’s son, told Fox News that Manafort did an “amazing” job for the campaign, but “I think my father didn’t want to be, you know, distracted by, you know, whatever things Paul was dealing with”.

Donald Trump’s new campaign manager says his expression of remorse for making offensive comments was of his own volition. And believe it or not, I regret it. Reporter: This trump, a stark difference from the man who has attacked a gold star family.

Manafort joined the campaign in March and had clashed with campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was sacked three months later.

Former president Bill Clinton will also resign from the board.

Analysts still consider Florida, North Carolina and OH considered genuine toss-up states, perhaps with a slight edge towards Clinton, but a string of strong polls has moved Pennsylvania seemingly out of reach for Trump, where he now trails Clinton by an average of 9 points, according to RealClearPolitics’ aggregation of polls. Some 23 percent would not side with either candidate.

Wednesday’s campaign reshuffle also brought on Steve Bannon, a combative conservative who headed the Breitbart News website, as chief executive officer, in a move seen as giving Trump a chance to emphasize his unconventional style.

In a similar shake-up in June, Manafort took over the running of the campaign after Trump fired Corey Lewandowski as campaign manager. One American soldier who was in Ukraine at the time revealed that protesters organized by Manafort threw rocks at North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops en route to the training exercise.

“This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign”, the Republican presidential nominee wrote.

Trump added that “Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success”. The New York Times reported ledgers for Yanukovych’s pro-Russian political organization listed lucrative payments to him.

He has vehemently dismissed the claims and denied any wrongdoing.

“Forty one per cent of registered voters say if the election were held today they would support Clinton or lean toward Clinton, 37 per cent back Trump, 10 per cent favour (Libertarian candidate Jill) Johnson and four per cent back (Green Party nominee Jill) Stein”, the Pew Research Center said in its findings. Russian officials have rejected that accusation. An ad the campaign released-Trump’s first paid television spot of the general election-focuses on his hard-line views on immigration, refugees, and border security.

“Too many cooks in the kitchen”, Feehery said.

A day after striking a more conciliatory tone and expressing rare “regret” for provocative remarks, Trump basked in the appreciation of a group of aid volunteers gathered at a Baton Rouge church.

“All of this calculation over the emails will probably be drowned out by the determination that he’s not fit to be president”, said Matt Bennett, once an aide to former Vice President Al Gore and a senior vice president at the centrist think tank Third Way. He joined the campaign in March.
