Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn putts in the women’s individual stroke play at the Olympic Golf course in Rio.

On the golf course, Park was as unflappable as ever.

Seiyoung Kim of South Korea also shot a 66.

“I feel like there’s still a lot of golf to be played, and I feel like there’s a lower number than what I’ve shot the last two days”. “Any time I talk about representing my country and what it would mean to hold the medal for our country and hear the national anthem, I’m just so proud to be an American”. However, she birdied the last four holes.

Lewis, however, had a double bogey in her round when she three-putted the 14th from 25 feet.

On a brighter note, Yang said she was pleased with her short game and putting. In total, 25 players shot under par on a hot, blustery day. It took the final threesome just over 5 1/2 hours to complete the opening round.

The Barcelona striker scored 15 seconds into the game and converted a penalty kick in second-half injury time to lead Brazil over Honduras 6-0 in the semifinals of the men’s tournament. Miriam Nagl was picked to hit the first tee shot.

But the women’s competition features a star-studded field. The maximum four players who qualified are among the top 10 in the women’s world ranking, and there has been talk back home about sweeping the podium.

“This could be, really, the highlight of my career”, said Park who came into the tournament at third on the Olympic rankings but has hinted her career may be nearing its end as she considers motherhood.

Seven-time major victor Inbee Park will reportedly contemplate retirement at the conclusion of the Olympic Games.

“The first half of the year wasn’t very good, ” she said. “But you know, we really can’t help it”. Another pre-tournament favorite in Lexi Thompson submitted a poor score in Round 3, shooting a 76 on the day and essentially falling out of contention.

“It was my first eagle at the Olympics”, Ko said after a 69.

On Day 13 of Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Team Korea remains in eleventh place in the medal standings, with seven gold, three silver and seven bronze.

Park had not played in an LPGA event since June as she’s battled a thumb ligament issue in her left hand, but has been tremendous through three rounds in Rio. Park showed ominous form in her first round, carding five birdies and no bogeys.

“It was the ideal shot at the flawless time and, to do that at the Olympics, it does not get any better than that”. The course was playing very, very hard.

So far, it is paying off for Lewis, 31, who made 11 birdies, a double-bogey and a bogey on Thursday. He made the last of his 10 birdies on the par-4 eighth, holing another 10-footer.
