Maybe less exciting than Uber and PayPal are the rest of the add-ins.

Starting today, the Uber, PayPal, Evernote and Boomerang email-scheduling add-ins are available for Outlook 2013 and Outlook on the web for users with Office 365 and Exchange 2013 mailboxes.
Currently, it disclosed Yelp Inc (NYSE:YELP), Evernote, IFTTT, and Wunderlist as add-ins list. This is also a simple to use add-in and a clip emails from outlook.
The company’s blog post highlights the expected time frame for the launch of various platforms, including Outlook.com, Outlook 2013, Office 365, and Outlook for Web. Similarly, Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) enables the user to pay, as well as, send money from inbox directly.
Microsoft and Uber announced plans for the Uber integration in April and it’s now available for users of Outlook 2013 and Outlook on the Web users with Office 365 and Exchange 2013.
Opening up Outlook to third-party features is a welcome move; the expanded functionality of add-ins could help it become a more enticing offer for power users versus Gmail, which is mostly limited to proprietary features and services. They will be available to those with the updated Outlook.com service “within the next month”. Just set up an Uber ride reminder for any calendar event with a single tap, and it will show up on your phone with the destination already set. Sharing work related information with colleagues becomes much easier with this new add-in. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) said that Boomerange allows the user to schedule, as well as, remind in case the user’s mail did not get a response.

(On a side note, I’ve often complained about Microsoft over-using the Outlook brand on various products, but the ability to use the same add-ins across these products makes the branding less onerous.). The Outlook.com preview, which was only made available for a selected number of preview users, has also been expanded to reach a wider audience, according to Microsoft.
