Burnley hold on to beat Liverpool 2-0

The benefits of a full pre-season under Klopp for Liverpool were clear last weekend when they produced perhaps the standout performance on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, winning 4-3 at Arsenal. And if we can do that I’m sure it will be a big opportunity for us to win things – that’s what I want to achieve with the team.

Such a strong start from Burnley allowed them to gift Liverpool possession, stay compact and wait to profit on the counter. “There are a lot of things to improve”, said Klopp.

“I’m looking forward to battling against them in the Premier League for Burnley”.

Roberto Firmino could therefore move to the wing with fit-again Daniel Sturridge starting up front – although Divock Origi is also pushing for a start. Liverpool is a club with a handsome history, but we have to make new history and we can do it with titles and winning games.

But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who faced renewed criticism after last week’s defeat, has denied suggestions he is reluctant to spend the money of the club he has managed since 1996.

The response to Gray’s tweets has been broadly condemnatory – just because they’re four years old, back when he was in his early twenties, doesn’t mean people are condoning what the striker said.

“I think I was a makeshift number 10”.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri, though, is expecting Mahrez to move up another level.

“Now he knows very well what I want and my expectations are higher”.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will hope that telling England goalkeeper Joe Hart that he can leave the club, after six seasons as their undisputed number one, has not caused discord in the dressing room. The players before us already wrote history and now it’s on us to write more.

“We have to believe that we can do something – that we can win titles. You have to adjust”, said Guardiola.
