Darrell told the site that he was with his son just outside Wisconsin, where the rocker was scheduled to perform at a charity event. After Matt’s rehearsal, they returned to their hotel where they had adjoining rooms.

Former 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts died in the early hours of Saturday, August 20, of a suspected accidental overdose of prescription pills, his father, Darrell, told TMZ.

3 Doors Down was founded in 1996, by childhood friends Roberts (lead guitar), Brad Arnold (vocals and drums) and Todd Harrell (bass). While with 3 Doors Down, the band produced three platinum-selling albums.

Matt Roberts left 3 Doors Down back in 2012 in good standing with band members due to health issues. In 2012, after 16 years with the band, Roberts announced that he was leaving, citing persistent problems with circulation, exacerbated by years of touring.
