Two NJ Transit buses collide in Newark, officials say

The buses involved in the accident are the No. 5612, driving from New York City to Orange, and No. 5784, heading from North Arlington to Newark Penn Station.

A bus driver was found dead when medics arrived, an EMS source tells PIX11. The driver of the bus with no passengers died.

A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Two NJ Transit buses collided Friday in New Jersey, killing the driver and injuring at least 18, eyewitnesses authorities said. Seven of the injured are in critical condition.

NJ Transit police Chief Christopher Trucillo has said the bus agency was cooperating with prosecutors and others investigating the crash. The other driver had neck, back and shoulder injuries.

The surveillance programme was discontinued in 2014.

Newark officials claimed the red light cameras reduced accidents. Critics said the cameras were mainly used to rake in cash for cities and towns.

Family friend Jasmina Bosnjakovic said Garcia’s family is “devastated” at losing a hardworking woman who was devoted to her grandchildren.

Near the crash scene, Starbucks employees were preparing to get on with their routines. She said she and a co-worker brought ice water, rags and a first aid kit. “We have some preliminarily kind of data that says we suspect one of the bus drivers may have gone through a red light”. They have denounced many passengers had “horrific” injuries, which includes head wounds.

The driver of the No. 59 bus with no passengers was killed. The Route 59 bus was empty, except for Barthelus. The driver’s name has not been released. The crash occurred at the intersection of Broad St. and Raymond Blvd.

All of the passengers had been removed from the No. 13 bus by about 7 a.m.

About 20 passengers were aboard the bus that was T-boned, and all but one were injured – seven seriously.
