Ohio Red Cross Volunteering in Louisiana Flood Relief
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said Thursday that discussions over longer-term temporary housing are materializing, but any such plan will come with many complications given the scope of flooding devastation in the state. The Louisiana Emergency Operations Center remains at full activation, and more than 2800 National Guard personnel have been conducting flood relief operations around the clock.

As part of the massive disaster relief effort in Louisiana, two additional American Red Cross in ME volunteers will be joining the three Mainers who are already in the state. The flood’s death toll has risen to 13, with more than 40,000 homes damaged or destroyed by the flood waters.
“From the Red Cross’ perspective, the Louisiana floods are page one”.
Alpha Media stations across the United States are asking listeners to donate to the Red Cross to provide relief to those affected by the recent flooding.
Wong said it takes a couple hours to drive just 20 miles between where she is staying in Lafayette and the 85-person shelter in Crowley where she serves as the night shift manager.
While being a volunteer appeals to many, the Red Cross says right now they need something more: money. Hopkins is one of nine volunteers who have physically deployed to support the relief efforts from the CT and Rhode Island region.
People interested in making direct donations toward Louisiana flood relief can text the word LAFLOODS to 90999 to make a donation of $10. Funds given in support of a specific disaster will be used for that disaster.
Sterling and Wong are two of at least 14 American Red Cross volunteers from New Jersey who dropped everything to jump into the middle of a natural disaster zone to help people they’ve never met.

One week after the flooding began, the situation is still dire for people living here. Local emergency lines have also been inundated with calls for help. The Red Cross has two ways to help families reconnect. Dozens of disaster response vehicles are deployed to Louisiana as well as numerous trailer-loads of relief supplies to bolster relief efforts.
