MA law enforcement officials believe that Marcotte’s death likely took place between 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and are asking anyone who might have seen anything suspicious during that time period to contact police.
Early said Marcotte traveled from NY to Princeton frequently to visit her family.
Albert also said that calls into the police department have greatly increased since the investigation began.
Vanessa Marcotte, whose body was found in a wooded area in Princeton Sunday night.
Marcotte was a 2011 graduate of Boston University and was an avid runner, according to the Telegram & Gazette.
An autopsy was completed on Marcotte Tuesday, but authorities are still awaiting test results and an official cause and manner of death has yet to be determined. Marcotte, who lived and worked in New York City, had gone for an afternoon jog while staying with her mother but she never returned.
John Marcotte described his daughter as highly dedicated to her job and said she was not romantically involved with anyone.
“People are fearful”, the Rev. Linda Michel said.
Her clothes were in disarray, indicating a possible sexual assault, police said. “She knew how smart she was”, he added. “We are asking the public to be careful and vigilant”.
Meanwhile, Google released a statement saying, “We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends”.
When asked about a similar incident that took place at Spring Creek Park in Queens, N.Y. on August 2, Early said they haven’t ruled anything out but said they haven’t sent investigators to New York City.
On Monday night, WFXT’s Christine McCarthy said neighbors were warned not to walk or jog alone while the suspect was still at large.
Police both in NY and in MA say they have no reason to believe the two crimes are connected.
