Gray helps newly promoted Burnley shock Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has blasted Liverpool’s performance in their 2-0 defeat at Turf Moor to Burnley today.

Klopp’s side never recovered from the second-minute goal by Sam Vokes and, when Andre Gray doubled the hosts’ advantage just before half-time, the visitors’ job was made even more hard as the Clarets put men behind the ball and conceded territory.

From the riveting 4-3 victory over Arsenal last weekend, in which the Reds were unplayable for a 15-minute period after the second half, they looked like they had forgotten how to play against Sean Dyche’s side. We already expected a tough challenge in breaking down a side with a very good defence at home, but after scoring they locked up tighter.

Liverpool got caught several times when trying to build up play, and Burnley just played the counter in order to score a second goal, wrapping up the result.

“We created chances but they were not big chances”. Daniel Sturridge came close to an equaliser with a curling left-foot shot just past the post as Klopp sensed a turnaround.

“I will watch the game again and I am pretty sure I will not see a lot of surprises in this game, I saw everything”.

The £8m signing for Anderlecht, won the ball from Robert Klavan in the middle of the park before driving to the edge of the penalty area and releasing Gray.

The game had been switched to Turf Moor because work on the new stand at Anfield is not complete and, after losing to Swansea in their opener, Burnley made home advantage count this time to pick up their first points since their promotion.

After the break Liverpool were restricted to long range efforts as Coutinho struck wide and Roberto Firminho forced Heaton into an excellent save.

Liverpool suffered a two nil defeat at the hands of Burnley.

He added: “We had absolutely no luck and everybody needs to be more clinical”.

The statistics showed Liverpool had 81 per cent possession and attempted 24 shots, but with only five on target and none which really troubled Tom Heaton.

Leicester’s Ahmed Musa was brought down by Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin in the 88th minute but no penalty was given
