President Obama Will Travel to Baton Rouge to Assess Flood Damage
Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, right, help to unload supplies for flood victims during a tour of the flood damaged area in Gonzales, La., Friday. And she urged Obama and Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, to visit. He also said Trump had never informed him about his trip.

In 2005, then-President George W. Bush, a Republican, drew criticism for flying over extensively damaged New Orleans, Louisiana, and then giving a speech in the still-flooded city following Hurricane Katrina. “The President is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts”, Earnest said.
“Disasters don’t have political boundaries”, Landrieu said.
“You live in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed – what the hell do you have to lose?” he said, adding a bold prediction: “At the end of four years, I will get over 95 percent of the African-American vote”.
The lack of coverage has been so noticeable that several news organizations have done stories on the lack of stories.
Trump’s own visit was a departure for the candidate, who has largely avoided the kind of unscripted, intimate interactions that power most candidates’ early primary campaigns. Over 6.9 trillion gallons of rain hit Louisiana over the course of six days, affecting over 40,000 homes, killing 13 people, and leaving over $30 million in damage in its wake. “My heart breaks for Louisiana”, Clinton said. “We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op”.
“Instead, we hope he ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA (Louisiana) Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of this storm”, the statement read.
Critics have bashed President Obama for not cutting his current vacation in Martha’s Vineyard short to travel to the Bayou State, though Edwards said Thursday that he would prefer Obama wait to visit until authorities won’t be pulled away from relief efforts in order to coordinate a presidential visit.
“Obama should recognize that leadership involves symbolism as well as substance”.
“We need every person to focus on continuing to rescue people”, the state’s lieutenant governor Billy Nungesser told MSNBC, agreeing with the governor.
“People in Louisiana urgently need our help now”, Red Cross official Brad Kieserman said in a statement on Tuesday.
President Barack Obama will visit Louisiana next week on Tuesday to view the severe flooding in the Baton Rouge area.
Obama has declared much of the state a federal disaster, freeing up emergency resources.
Obama granted the designation to 20 of the state s 64 parishes – Louisiana s equivalent to counties.

He has been receiving updates from US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate, who both have visited Louisiana.
