“I got home, just went to my room, took my computer out, chilled by myself, slept for a bit and then came over here”. “Thank you everyone for coming”.

Singapore Olympic gold medallist swimmer Joseph Schooling greets his father Colin Schooling during a homecoming ceremony at Singapore’s Changi Airport August 15, 2016.

He was still signing autographs more than an hour later.

Schooling is already inspiring young Singaporeans.

The government, in a widely expected move, announced that Schooling will not have to undergo mandatory military training until after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He encouraged reporters to focus their questions on Schooling, who he said represented the sport’s future.

Singapore Parliament will be sitting on Monday. But ahead of the pack was Schooling, ecstatic in the triumph he’d been working toward for more than 10 years. Phelps is 31 and has only just retired after taking his record haul of Olympic medals to 28 including 23 golds in Rio.

Minister of Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin, the president of the Singapore National Olympic Council, lauded Schooling for his tremendous hard work and sacrifice in chasing his Olympic dreams, and hailed his parents for supporting him every step of the way. She ignored the conversation with Joseph Schooling for nearly four months. I’m glad my son also showed respect.

Plenty of brands were obsessed with Schooling’s winning time of 50:39 seconds.

Chinese-born female table tennis players won a team silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and an individual bronze in London 2012. The American had a chance to see Schooling’s progress over the years, as the Singapore swimmer trained and competed in the United States first at the Bolles School in Florida and now at the University of Texas.
