Tigers edge Red Sox, snapping Boston’s 6-game win streak
Lefty Matt Boyd started against Boston on Thursday and gave up one run in six innings of a 4-3 Tigers’ win in which he did not figure in the decision. Replays clearly showed that Bradley hadn’t caught the ball, and after a review, umpires awarded McGehee first base and put J.D. Martinez on third.

Ryan Schimpf, who tied the score with a two-run homer in the eighth inning, hit a three-run walk-off homer with one out in the 10th to give the San Diego Padres a 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Porcello appreciated the early help, as both David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit two-run homers off Michael Fulmer in the first inning.
The Sox suffered a frustrating loss the day before, but last night they had their defacto ace on the mound, Rick Porcello.
Rick Porcello says he’s more concerned about winning games for the Boston Red Sox than beating his former team, the Detroit Tigers.
In the top of the 4th the Sox got all over rookie pitcher Michael Fulmer and scored 4 runs.
It was his second home run in two games in this series, bringing his Comerica Park career total to 23 in 58 games – most by a visiting player at Comerica.
After Xander Bogaerts hit a sharp single to left field with one out, David Ortiz launched his 28th home run deep to right field for a 2-0 advantage. Ortiz has more homers in Detroit than in any other ballpark outside the AL East.
James McCann led off the third inning with his 10th home run of the season.
It was Ortiz’ 1,500th RBI as a member of the Red Sox. Bradley and Ortiz started it off.
Drew Pomeranz – Without two rain delays, he could have gone the distance, but instead had to call it a night after five innings and 51 pitches. “He just got away from being the pitcher that made him successful in the past”. “They were forcing me to throw the fastball and when I did they were ready for it”, Fulmer said. In the 7th inning Hanley Ramirez hit a 2 run RBI double to have the Sox leading 8-2. Fulmer retired the first two hitters, but base hits by Sandy Leon and Brock Holt put runners on first and second.
“I think Mr. Butterfield was arguing out on balls and strikes with (plate umpire Scott Barry), and he warned him a couple times and he didn’t pay any attention to the warnings”, said crew chief Jerry Layne, who was umpiring first.
RHP Steven Wright (shoulder) throws a bullpen Sunday to see if he will be able to come off the disabled list and start on Tuesday.

CUBS 9, BREWERS 6 (at Chicago) – Kris Bryant homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs while going 5-for-5 and Chicago overcame Jake Arrieta’s career-high seven walks to beat Milwaukee for a four-game sweep. He is also 12-0 with a 2.96 ERA at Fenway Park. The Pedroia single signaled the end of the night for Fulmer whose final line read 5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, and 1 K. The Tigers offense continued to get shut down by Porcello through the middle frames as they mustered just two hits.
