Despite the best efforts of the ground staff, conditions did not improve satisfactorily on the third day for play to be possible in the morning session.
Not a single ball was bowled as West Indies took lunch at overnight score of 66 for two.
While rain played spoilsport on day one, washing out the second and third sessions, no play was possible at all on day two, despite no rain.
“Umpire Red Tucker and Nigel Llong, who inspected the ground at 11.30 a.m., made a decision to inspect again at 1.00 p.m., as they were not satisfied with the ground conditions because the infield was still soft”, an official said. The opening day saw only 22 overs being bowled before rain brought an end to proceedings.
India have already won the series and are now leading it 2-0.
Fast bowler Ishant Sharma removed Leon Johnson via a catch at forward short-leg by Rohit Sharma, while all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin breached the defence of Darren Bravo to bowl the left-hander. His previous meeting with yet another West Indies great Viv Richards shows the personality the young Test skipper carries.
