“The Union government has chosen the path of removing poverty by empowering the poor”.
She said challenges like flood, drought and others are emerging out of the climate change and coordinated efforts are immensely needed at the global level.
Calling upon BRICS countries to strengthen “cooperative mechanisms”, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Saturday said a united front would help in the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She said BRICS was a relatively young group and its member countries together comprised 43 per cent of the world’s population, contributing 37 per cent of the world’s gross domestic product. Meghwal termed the meeting an endeavour to provide an opportunity for strengthening parliamentary cooperation in furthering the agenda of BRICS.
“Development at the cost of culture is not sustainable”, she stressed before the women parliamentarians from member countries at the session in Rajasthan Assembly. She hoped that during India’s chairmanship, BRICS cooperation will be further strengthened. “It is an unbelievable experience to meet your fellow women parliamentarians from various countries and share their experience to understand what they do, what they don’t do and we tell them our experiences. It is a lovely exchange of ideas”, said Kavita.
The women parliamentarians of BRICS nations during their meeting yesterday expressed concern over Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), terrorism, gender equality, funds under New Development Bank (NDB), poverty, social responsibility and more women participation in politics and power. She began her address with references to water management in India and cited examples of Jaipur’s Laporiya village, known for traditional water conservation methods.
