With still no clarity on whether Navjot Singh Sidhu, cricketer-turned politician, will join the Aam Aadmi Party or not, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that Mr. Sidhu had asked for more time to take a decision. It is my duty to put forward our side. We have greatest greatest regard for this ckt legend. He met me last week.
“He needs time to think”. Lets respect that. He is a v gud human being n a ckt legend. “My respect for him would continue whether he joins or not”, Kejriwal tweeted.
Kejriwal, who was in Goa on his third visit in as many months, also said that if the Aam Aadmi Party comes to power, it would ensure that those mining companies and others linked to the Rs 35,000 crore illegal mining scam would not be allowed to go scot-free.
The AAP issued statements from its party headquarters in Delhi and in Punjab, insisting that Sidhu would merely be campaigning for the party if he joined. His long silence offered an opportunity to the top contenders for the post of Chief Minister from AAP to stake their claims and convey messages to the top party leadership that Sidhu’s entry would send the “wrong signals” to party workers and leaders. Navjot Singh Sidhu has been mixing with the AAP ever since his resignation as MP of Rajya Sabha on 18th July 2016.

Though Sidhu never said he would join AAP, there were enough indications from him and the party that he would contest the Punjab elections, scheduled for early next year. Sucha Singh Chhotepur who is the State unit convener of AAP nurses himself as a chief ministerial candidate and wants the party to follow its principle of elected MLAs choosing their leader after the polls.
