A source with knowledge of the event told CNN the “Revenant” star had to cancel due to a scheduling conflict.

Leonardo DiCaprio has backed out of a pricey fundraiser lunch for Hillary Clinton that the actor had been scheduled to host at his Los Angeles home this week. DiCaprio will be in NY filming for an upcoming project and turned to former Mouseketeer, Grammy-award-winning musician and actor pal Justin Timberlake and his equally-talented wife, Jessica Biel, to see if they could pick up his slack while he was across the country. The foundation – which focuses on climate change initiatives and hosts a glitzy annual party for hundreds of A-list celebrities and dignitaries – is alleged to have received donations tied to money misappropriated from a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund that had been earmarked for development in the country.

Josh Schwerin, a spokesperson with the Clinton campaign, said any suggestion that the scandal is connected to DiCaprio dropping out “is completely false”. He is not now filming a movie as an actor. Schwerin added: “If we could have had the event at his home, we would have loved to”.

The 41-year-old “The Great Gatsby” star is presently producing a documentary “Before the Flood”. “We hope to do something with him in the future”.

A day prior to the Timberlake-Biel luncheon, a fundraiser will also be held at media proprietor and Power Rangers billionaire Haim Saban’s home, on 22 August. On Saturday, however, People revealed that Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel have replaced the Oscar victor as the host of the benefit.
