Early on, Houston appeared destined to drop to.500 for the first time since June 1. Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo all took Collin McHugh deep just 16 pitches into the frame.

But Houston answered with a five-run second to go up 6-5. “It’s hard to describe, because you’re not used to seeing that at this level”.

Bregman picked up his second RBI of the game in the fourth – plating Teoscar Hernandez with a single. “He got me pretty good, but I’ll be all right”. “You take eight or nine day off in between [starts], I think that was it more than anything”. According to STATS, the Orioles became the first team to homer four times before making an out. He’s played in only two games since August 11. Baltimore didn’t have enough firepower in this one to overcome its poor pitching, which surrendered a season-high 15 runs and 18 hits.

Miley was the most obvious culprit.

Baltimore counters with Yovani Gallardo (4-4, 5.18).

“It was awful. It’s embarrassing for that to happen”, he said.

Reds 9, Dodgers 2: Joey Votto hit a three-run homer, relief pitcher Michael Lorenzen also hit a three-run shot, and Cincinnati snapped a nine-game losing streak against Los Angeles. “I like to throw fastballs”, the right-hander said. “Today’s game in general was kind of a insane game, and to start out like that is obviously not the way you draw it up”. George Springer has hit 130 times with 92 runs, 25 homers and 72 RBI.

Baltimore Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph breaks his bat over his knee after popping out with two runners on against the Houston Astros in the ninth inning of a baseball game, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, in Baltimore.

The Astros padded their lead against Despaigne, as Springer homered in the fifth inning to give his team an 8-1 advantage. In the 6th, an Altuve double, run-scoring Carlos Correa single and Evan Gattis base-hit to right field ended his night with the Orioles down 9-1, and booked his ticket back to Norfolk (he was actually sent down following the game).

J.J. Hardy smacked a two-run shot in that fourth inning, and added a solo homer in the sixth.

“The only silver lining with their power is we kept it to solo homers by most part, or a couple of two-run homers”, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said about the Orioles.

Friday night’s game started off with a continuation of the gameplan for a painful backslide in the second half of the season for the Astros – a ray of hope that is quickly snuffed out by complete implosion. He’s played in only two games since August 11. “He’s not moving quite at full speed”, Hinch said. Castro then worked a base on balls on a 3-1 count that scored Gattis and prompted a visit to the mound from Orioles manager Buck Showalter, signaling the end of Tillman’s evening.

Orioles starter Chris Tillman had his scheduled start on Wednesday pushed back to tonight because of shoulder soreness, and whether it was a case of lingering arm trouble or just one of those nights the big 6’6 righty couldn’t compartmentalize his mechanics, he was lost in the strike zone.
