Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his first appearance for the club with a winning header, as United edged a tight contest against the shock Premier League champions.
It was a big day for United.
The Portuguese boss was appointed as van Gaal’s sucessor in May and won his first trophy as Man United manager in his first competitive game in charge.
He continued, “I needed to take off the smallest player because we were expecting a lot of long balls”.
I would be not ambitious if I said it was a fantastic performance. “They understand that not always we can win, but they’ll always watch the squad fight until the end”.
After Manchester United captured their first piece of silverware of the season, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made the bold declaration that there are many more trophies to come.
“So we are competing in every competition the club is in and we want to win whatever we can”. I enjoyed and watched the same team as last season, only the result is against us.
“Nothing got past him and I’m really looking forward to seeing the player that he’s going to become”.
He told BT Sport after the game: “I thought Mkhitaryan could have a chance of coming in but then again Lingard scored a special goal at Wembley, so you’d think he’d keep his place”. This is my 31st trophy and I’m super happy.
The Foxes begin the defence of their title against newly promoted Hull City on 13 August. “We need to change this”. “They are the champions from the last season and you can see why, they are a very strong collective team”.
“It was a hard game”.
