On Thursday, David Wright continued his rehab assignment and outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis joined St. Lucie to start a rehab assignment.

It’s finally happening. After months of waiting and speculation, David Wright will play his first game since being diagnosed with spinal stenosis.

In the bottom of the first, Jupiter’s Yefri Perez drew a leadoff walk from Mickey Jannis.

A lot will depend on how healthy Wright is when eligible to play, but even so, all signs are pointing to a quick return for the Mets captain. Approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game, the Mets and Hammerheads will begin a seven-inning game.

Mets manager Terry Collins is subscribing to the “no news is good news” philosophy when it comes to Wright, and there were no problems out of Florida.

Maybe the 5-foot-11 Batts, who once pitched a ideal game and no-hitter in consecutive starts at his Winston-Salem N.C. high school, can outsmart the rusty Mets All-Star.

Lucas Duda was held out of the Mets’ 4-0 victory with a stiff back he had been dealing with for a few days. The team’s medical staff gave him medication to treat his back on Wednesday and he will be revaluated before Friday’s game. I’ve got enough [to do] with the 25 guys I’ve got in [the clubhouse]. “So sometimes it’s just a matter of getting back on track”, Johnson said. He said Monday he spent 90 minutes stretching and warming up before the game – a routine he likely will have to repeat before every game for the rest of his career.

Juan Lagares’ three-run homer in the eighth was the first pinch-hit homer for the Mets since Chris Young hit one on July 12, 2014.
