Former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann, providing color commentary for Thursday night’s Redskins-Browns preseason game on CSN, struck a somber tone when viewing the replay of an ankle injury to Washington tight end Niles Paul.

An MRI exam revealed the break.
As the replay rolled, Paul (84) was shown falling to the ground with a defender approaching his leg. Moreover, with third-stringer Logan Paulsen having suffered a toe injury that could require surgery, Washington could be forced to add another tight end in short order. It’s unknown at this time how long Paul will be out but Gruden seemed to indicate it might be the entire season.
During happier times earlier this week at training camp in Richmond, tight end Niles Paul, center, drives outside linebacker Adam Hayward, center left, and running back Silas Redd to the practice field.
[Paul had put on 27 pounds to withstand the rigors of the season]. “But I know him”.

Paul was carted off the field Thursday with what looked like a nasty ankle injury, and coach Jay Gruden announced after the game that Paul has a season-ending ankle fracture dislocation.
