It took three visits and an overnight stay to get the job done, but Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver T.Y. Hilton got his contract extension Thursday morning.

Pro Bowl receiver T.Y. Hilton agreed to a five-year, $65 million contract extension with the Indianapolis Colts. “His daily excellence on and off the field is a shining example of an individual striving for greatness and what it truly means to be a Colt”. “It’s been a very emotional weekend”, Hilton said without elaborating on what happened in his personal life.

Hilton and the Colts had been negotiating throughout the summer, with agent Drew Rosenhaus making three separate trips to Indianapolis throughout training camp. So in reality, the Colts have Hilton locked up through 2020 on a six-year, $66.542 million deal – one that averages only $11.1 million per year. “They showed interest in me and I wanted to be here”. His contract extension keeps him in a Colts uniform for the foreseeable future. A former third-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Hilton has played a starring role for the Colts offense to this point.
Mrs. Hilton was overcome with emotion. Just ask Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks secondary (five receptions for 140 yards and two TDs) or anybody on the Houston Texans defense (16 catches for 344 yards and four touchdowns in the past two games played in Houston) if you need proof. The $39 million guarantee also ranks fourth, behind the same three players, as does the $13 million average annual value.

“If the team that you’re with doesn’t do it, then somebody else will”, said fellow wide receiver Andre Johnson, who has experienced his share of big contracts. Team owner Jim Irsay recently stated that he felt there was no reason a deal couldn’t be worked out before the start of the season and the Colts saw to that this week. He became the second player in team postseason history to finish a game with 200-plus receiving yards. “That means a lot”.
