Trump spending far behind Clinton

Donald Trump’s campaign doubled its spending in July, even though the Republican nominee still only employed about 80 people, aired no television ads and maintained ties with his fired campaign manager and the writer who plagiarized part of his wife’s convention speech. The campaign now has a little more than $38 million in cash on hand. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign. The big expense came as Trump put a new emphasis on online fundraising, after paying for his primary run mostly out of his own pocket.

“If the Republicans are spending their time attacking and fighting each other, it gives you a little bit more liberty to go out there and articulate your message”.

Almost half of Trump’s spending, $8.4 million, was directed to one company: Giles-Parscale, a Web-design firm whose president, Brad Parscale, serves as the Trump campaign’s digital director.

The challenge Trump has in reaching out is also apparent in his poll numbers.

The newspaper noted that Obama interrupted his two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week to attend a fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on the MA island.

Earlier Thursday, Trump moved to invest almost $5 million in battleground state advertising – the first ad airing Friday, accusing Clinton of rigging the election.

Only in the past week did Trump place his first round of general election advertising – almost $5 million for TV commercials in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Nearly $26 million of her monthly expenses went to produce and air a blizzard of television and online commercials – part of what has been a $120 million ad bombardment by her campaign. She raised $90 million for her campaign and Democratic party committees in July, according to finance reports released Saturday.

But Trump’s campaign reported just $36 million in receipts last month.

The question is, which Donald Trump will show up – the disciplined, dialed back candidate who read from a teleprompter during a major economic policy address before the Detroit Economic Club on August 8, or the shoot-from-the-hip candidate who disrupted a crowded Republican primary field and raced past establishment candidates to seal the party’s nomination? Hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer, who contributed $2 million to a pro-Trump super political action committee in July, is an investor in Cambridge.

“Despite today’s latest staff shake-up, Donald Trump’s campaign still maintains strong ties to Russian Federation and pro-Kremlin elements”.
