Ten killed, 30 injured in Telengana bus accident

At least ten people were killed and 30 injured after a bus in which they were travelling, fell into a canal off a bridge in Telengana’s Khammam district in the wee hours of Monday.

Besides, in another accident, three persons died in Andhra Pradesh when their vehicle met with an accident in Chittoor district early this morning when they were returning from the Krishna Pushkaram festival, they said.

According to Khammam superintendent of police Shah Nawaz Khan, the bus belonging to private operator Yatra Genie, started its journey from Hyderabad at 11.30 pm on Sunday.

On being alerted by the local fishermen, the Kusumanchi police rushed to the spot and rushed the injured passengers to the district headquarters hospital.

Collector D S Lokesh Kumar and other senior officials reached the spot to supervise the rescue operations. The Andhra Pradesh govt. announced Rs 3 lakhs ex-gratia to the family of the deceased. All the passengers are said to be from East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, three persons were killed in a separate road accident in the Chittoor district early this morning.

The victims were returning to their town after taking part in the Krishna Pushkaram.

According to the police, the accident occurred near Nayakangudem when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell off a bridge on Nagarjunasagar canal.

The bus driver has been identified as Kishore.
