Conor McGregor: Nate Diaz annoyed Irishman ran away during the fight

McGregor himself hinted that’s where his career could take him next, but with a noticeable foot injury reportedly stemming from Diaz checking one of his many low kicks last night, the future, at least immediately, is somewhat uncertain for the UFC’s golden draw.

Despite relentless trash talk that came to an eruptive boil in a pre-fight press conference, the pair of fighters displayed respect for one another after the battle, hugging in the octagon.

McGregor previously got the better of Aldo in their title fight at UFC 194 in December, knocking out the Brazilian just 13 seconds into the first round.

According to figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, McGregor earned a record-setting $3 million for his fight against Diaz.

But promotion president Dana White indicated that the matter of McGregor’s featherweight title might interrupt the trilogy.

McGregor might want to defend his 145-pound title against Jose Aldo, who got beat by McGregor past year.

Aldo wasn’t given an automatic rematch for the belt that he held for five years. “And then he stepped in and I beat him in 13 seconds”. He had to earn it by defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 by unanimous decision.

“It’s hard for me to get excited about that, especially after his last performance”. He didn’t go out and get it like I wanted him to get it.

After singing Diaz’s praises, McGregor went right back to hype mode.

“All I know is that it’s 1-1”, McGregor said.

While McGregor does want to face Diaz again, he wants the fight to be at 155 pounds.

The former Bellator champion also labelled McGregor vs Diaz 2 a “freak show”.

McGregor was sacked up and focused all week long leading up to the rematch with Diaz as he promised to right the wrongs that cost him in their first fight.

A fight against McGregor would easily be the biggest of Alvarez’s career, and he would nearly certainly welcome the challenge, as well as the payday.

Or do you let McGregor and Diaz rest up for a couple months and than run it back for a third time in succession, capitalizing on the momentum Saturday’s classic back-and-forth produced? The next big UFC rumor involves who McGregor’s next opponent is and it could be a rematch against Diaz or a fight against other top contenders like Eddie Alvarez or Jose Aldo.
