Trump Calls For “Extreme Vetting” of Immigrants

Trump did not identify the countries that would face the immigration and visa scrutiny beyond broadly invoking the middle-east region, although he cited honor killings in Pakistan and said speaking out against the frightful practice would be a litmus test to determine moderate Muslims, who he said his administration would befriend.

The GOP presidential nominee told the 350 party faithful and others who had been invited to hear the speech that “extreme vetting” and an ideological test for prospective immigrants would be the hallmarks of his policy. I call it extreme, extreme vetting.

Trump named no countries but cited the number of immigrants from the Middle East as an example of the scope of the perceived problem.

Trump, for example, is on record supporting the war in Iraq, the ouster of the Mubarak government in Egypt, and the USA military offensive in Libya.

Delivering a foreign policy address in Youngstown, Ohio, Trump echoed the call for stricter immigration – a cornerstone of his campaign – and reiterated his belief that “radical Islamic terrorism” is the biggest threat the world faces today.

“Those who did not believe in our Constitution or who support bigotry and hatred will not be admitted for immigration into our country”. Those immigrants who declare their hostility for American law and their contempt for pluralism won’t be allowed in.

Trump was vague about what he would do differently to decimate the Islamic State in its strongholds in Iraq and Syria.

A similar sense of urgency exists in the Mexican-American community where Trump’s pledge to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants has been met with deep concern.

Trump called for a temporary suspension of immigration from places “that have a history of exporting terrorism”.

Which countries exactly? That’s TBD.

” He added his administration would ask the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to identify regions in which “adequate screening (of immigrants) can not take place”.

“We will stop processing visas from those areas until such time as it deemed safe to resume based on new circumstances or new procedures”. “Immigration offices will also have their powers restored”.

Trump is also expected to propose creating a new, ideological test for admission to the country that would assess a candidate’s stances on issues like religious freedom, gender equality and gay rights.

The day after his initial announcement, he clarified that USA citizens who are Muslim would be allowed back in the country.

Fifty Republicans last week signed a statement that said they would not support Trump because he was placing the U.S.in danger with his statements and questioned his capacity to become America’s commander-in-chief.

In the end, you could say that Trump is proposing a new foreign policy, after all-one that would ally the United States with the Russian dictator.

After major military victories, the 240-year-old United States has tended to pour money and aid back into countries it has fought to help re-establish governments and services.

Trump also said that he would end USA involvement in nation-building and focus on halting the spread of Muslim terrorism.
