Murray loses streak to Cilic as Pliskova beats Kerber to crown

Murray won that match, but unfortunately failed to match his gold-medal-winning success in the final last night, losing 6-4 7-5 to Marin Cilic.

Former US Open champion Cilic claim his first Masters title, but Murray is hardly deflated having record his 600th win as professional against Anderson on his way to the final.

Olympic champion Murray, who beat Raonic in the Wimbledon final, notched his career-best 22nd consecutive win by blunting the fourth-seeded Canadian’s intimidating service game in a 6-3 6-3 semi-final victory.

Just a week after retaining his Olympic title in Rio, Murray lost his serve twice in the first set and, despite breaking back, fell behind.

Murray displayed yet another remarkable game at the Cincinnati Masters after defeating Canada’s Milos Raonic 6-3 6-3 to extend his career-long 22 straight wins. I’m feeling good on the court. “If you’re a bit lower on confidence, regardless of how fresh you are, if you haven’t played loads of matches you make bad decisions in those moments”, Murray said, reports the ATP’s official website. “I couldn’t get it done today but we’ll keep working to get better”. I had a break point in his first service game and 0-30 in his next service game.

But an exhausted three-times Grand Slam victor Murray also feels he is playing the best tennis of his career at the age of 29.

Murray:”I’m very proud of this week”.

That and Murray fatigue are the reasons to be backing Cilic today, with all the numbers favouring the Scot, who holds serve 10% more often than Cilic in this match-up.

Now the Canadian had the pressure to hold his serve if he wanted one last chance to try to recover the break, that chance was close to being gone as Murray got a set point but a well placed served by Raonic saved it. I had some pretty good wins along the way. “I’m looking forward to a few days rest now”, the world number two added. But it’s a very, very positive week.

Cilic forced a decider by winning the second set and unseeded Dimitrov, who last month reached the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup before disposing of Stan Wawrinka and Steve Johnson in Cincinnati, began to unravel.
