Only one other gymnast has served as an Olympic flag bearer: Alfred Jochim, who did so at Opening Ceremonies of the Berlin 1936 Games.
The young women have a lot to celebrate as they leave Rio as one of the most successful gymnastic teams in Olympics history.
Simone Biles takes home four gold medals after dominating the games for her country.
Soon enough, she’ll have to start thinking about defending her record in Tokyo in four years, but for now, she deserves to celebrate.
“It’s an incredible honor to be selected as the flag bearer by my Team USA teammates”, Biles said after being chosen. A stumble during her balance beam performance denied her a fifth gold in that category, though she still managed to clinch bronze.
