Darth Vader Returns in Star Wars ‘Rogue One’ Trailer

Employing the same marketing strategy it used for The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm has now unveiled the second trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, teasing the return of Star Wars villain Darth Vader.

The clip released Thursday during NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics, features main protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) as she accepts a risky mission to steal the plans to the dreaded Death Star. He’s seen from behind standing in front of an illuminated display of the Death Star. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to premiere on 16 Dec 2016. Many noted that parts of the plot of “Force” echoed those of the 1977 movie “Star Wars”, in particular, including a desert planet setting and the need to help one of the female characters get out of an enemy’s stronghold.

The two-minute promo, which is different from the one shown at last month’s Star Wars Celebration event in London, begins with new character Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) telling Jyn Erso (Jones) that “the world is coming undone”.

“Rogue One” isn’t expected to depart from the Star Wars formula.

“The pressure is so high”, Mr. Edwards said in behind-the-scenes footage posted July 15 on the official Star Wars HQ YouTube page.

If you watch right until the end, there’s also a sneaky appearance from fan favourite Darth Vader, who will be voiced by James Earl Jones, the original actor who played the antihero.
