Republicans have described the foundation as a venue for “pay to play”, in which wealthy donors and foreign governments got access to the former top USA diplomat through her family’s philanthropic work. The rash of charges finally has had the effect of the Clintons virtually announcing their disassociation with the Foundation if Hillary wins the White House, although critics remain unimpressed.
And it will just take some time for them to readjust. The charities have received praise from public health experts for their work alleviating the spread of HIV, and Clinton’s campaign has said any donor expecting political favors in return would be misguided.
Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman, resigned on August 18 amid increased scrutiny of his work for a pro-Moscow Ukrainian political party.
The foundation is not required by law to disclose its donors, but it has published those names since Clinton was nominated to be secretary of state by President Obama.
As part of the changes, Bill Clinton agreed that he would step down from the board of the organization if his wife was elected and would do no more fundraising for the group.
In contrast, her opponent, Donald Trump, has had twelve. “They’re not going to accept any donations from foreign entities”. The foundation will continue to raise money from USA individuals and charities.
“There’s all this scrutiny because Hillary Clinton has been transparent. If Clinton is elected, the foundation should be shut down”. “It will cast a shadow over their policies”.
Others questioned why Clinton had now decided that the foundation should rule out donations that she apparently thought were acceptable during her tenure as the country’s top diplomat. I don’t think you heard these questions when members of the Bush family continued to serve on boards for the first President Bush’s foundation. A spokesman for Clinton’s campaign declined to answer questions about the foundation.
Hillary Clinton should explain what will happen to the Clinton Foundation if she’s elected. Its work covers 180 countries, helping fund more than 3,500 projects.
Nina Turner, a former OH state senator who was a leading surrogate for Clinton’s rival in the Democratic primary race, Sen. “It’d be impossible to keep the foundation open without at least the appearance of a problem”. The Obama White House had particularly disliked the gatherings of world leaders, academics and business people, called the Clinton Global Initiative, that the foundation was holding overseas.
U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton holds a rally at John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio on August 17. On Thursday, Bill Clinton said the gathering in September in NY would be the foundation’s last.
Victor Pinchuk, a steel magnate whose father-in-law, Leonid Kuchma, was president of Ukraine from 1994 to 2005, has directed between $10 million and $25 million to the foundation. And Chelsea Clinton, who is its vice chairwoman, would continue her leadership role. And obviously the Clintons have staff that facilitate these sorts of communication.
The reality is, he added, “there are no recusals when you are president”.

Considering the scale and scope of the foundation, Mr. Wonderlich said it was easy to “name a hundred different types of conflicts”.
