John Daly Fires Club Into Lake After Disastrous Hole At PGA Championship

“Reflex. It’s nothing more than reflex”, Daly said about hurling the club. The fourth found the green, and after taking a few steps, Daly heaved his 6-iron into the water.

This youngster was in a slightly better mood than the 1991 PGA Champion as he recovered the souvenir of a lifetime soon after.

Anyone who’s played golf must have thought about throwing their clubs away at some point (or actually done it), so you should be able to empathize with John Daly.

A resounding golf clap for the distance on that throw; he had to put a little behind that to make the water. So the tossed the offending club into Lake Michigan during the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wis. That’s the ideal ending for a man living the frustrated golfer’s wildest dreams. He did the same with his second tee shot. He hasn’t won since 2004 at Torrey Pines, and he hasn’t had a full PGA Tour card in a decade. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for just one championship for either of his other three teams.

Either way, can’t say I blame Daly for getting angry. A boat swooped by the seventh green, and a kid got Daly’s club and hoisted it up like a trophy.
